what are we?
Undefined, unrefined, unsure.
Neither of us ever talk about it
So, we’ll probably never know.
It lacks something I can’t feel,
But I can feel
That you don’t feel it too.
And we can like each other well enough
But does that really work for you?
Without that missing ingredient
Is it really enough?
I am reminded
Of feelings from the past
Those overwhelming passions,
Borderline obsessions.
Were those simply Toxic behaviors?
Bad relationships?
will healthy relationships
simply never be enough for me?
Are red flags attractive
Because they incite a familiar feeling
Or because
They are all that is exciting enough
To hold my attention?
Will I ever find someone
Who can fill both roles
Of safe and exciting?
Or am I doomed to choose
One or the other
Only to find
That neither is ever enough?
