To an old friend

benevolentbluebabe

My heart beats, clasped in your tightly woven hands,
I find no release from those long-remembered, peaceful sands.
Instead, waking, and unconscious dreamings fill
with visions of you, your laugh, your eyes—even still.

Other beaus present, yet, to my growing discontent,
none compare, nor feel, and few;
nights spent with them, my thoughts dash to you—
and so, loneliness compels,
a heart with sorrow brimmed;
if you've changed, if you asked, I'd be back.

With this my love I send.

Signed,
An Everlasting Friend

  • Comment from author about the poem: It's so difficult to find a person who truly understands you. And when you do, it's impossible to let them go.

      Unfortunately, I don't think they ever will. It's come a bit too late
