could you be a lighthouse,
my captain?
a welcome and a warning
all in one
or is that too poetic
of a metaphor for you?
more of a flask
passed back and forth
choosing to mistake the warmth
in my cheeks for
naught but the effects of rum
there is a brightness to you,
though and just the same
my blood sings for you
backed by the sighing
of a heavy heart
but there is beauty in that, too
wouldn’t you agree,
oh, captain of mine?
more than anything, though
captain,
there is beauty in you

wonderful, simplicity is so overlooked in our strive for poetic excellence, which is a shame because here you've displayed just what a gravitational pull it has,
rhythmic, unexaggerated and with a subtle nod to Victorian era love poems
What a high compliment! Thank you so much. I’m not usually one for short poems, but the simplicity of this one was enjoyable to write. Are there are Victorian era love poems in particular mine made you think of, or that you’d suggest?
