I have thunk thunk thunk and can only come up with Max Bygraves ..
.. this exercise has done nothing to help my inferiority complex damn it 🙂
What is the connection to Max?
He recorded 'Tulips from Amsterdam' .. and 'Tears for Souvenirs' ... tulips often being bought as souvenirs by tourists visiting Holland .... and .....

it definitely made me think and read other's comment responses and try to investigate, but ultimately I am drawn back to my instinctive realisations - at first read,
this reminds me of a poem by the highly imaginative Robert Browning (who also enjoyed teasing his readers), titled 'My Last duchess'

Aside, from the obvious painting analogy shared in both works, there is also that sly smirk of undressing the pretentious perspectives of 'some', who: although wanting to come across as humane and cultured, are but ravenous opportunist's of capitalism, scalping nature of her 'Tulip's', living a life in which their most cherished possession is a diamond pointed - 'belt puncher'...
thought provoking and immensely engaging from but a single stanza of your glaringly obvious: prowess!
