Deconstruction

Forbidden or denied
Glistening like the sweetness
Of new blood
Burst berry brimming
Ripened
Released
Relinquished
Stained

Now
Now
Now

What does it mean?
They asked the poet

I’m not sure
She replied

How does it feel?

How did it feel to you?
She enquired

And then there was a pause
An uncertain silence
In the misty space between
Where nothing existed
And everything was possible

She lit a cigarette
Inhaled more than nicotine
And exhaled less than herself
The smoke scattered the unsaid into the air

She watched words shift
Until the meaning of them evaporated
And her head began to spin
She emptied herself
And no sense was needed

I see
They said

She smiled

And disappeared

Are these the words of unfulfilled emotion us poets experience when we cannot complete the piece we began to compose......
...... the frame of mind we entered to begin that composition somehow gets lost.... disappears as the practical side of finding the words to convey the emotion takes over......

I smile and put it away for another day..... and disappear too.

It's a shame there isn't a 'haunting' category because this fits right in. Dark and atmospheric. Half glimpsed figures that aren't there when your attention is drawn to them. Great writing thanks Sylvia.
