Act of Defiance

Eugene S.

Little mimosa,
how we love you
as you close your leaves.

But even you,
after too much,
will ignore our tease.

How do you know,
little mimosa,
that we are as breeze?

How can you see?
How can you think
to refute our pleas

that you obey,
that you behave
in days such as these!

  • Comment from author about the poem: Even the unimposing sensitive plant will stop trying to protect its leaves when the threat becomes mundane and too repetitive - and that, without a brain! "It's not worth the effort, just ignore them and they will go away." ~ Mimosa pudica
