All The Addicted

Harry Atkinson

This desire

That seizes your attention

Fallen in love with a self-destructing inclination

Who is it

That caters for your tedious hunger?

I know,

Sometimes you're presented with a buffet

I have been too

Every last scrap

Every last taste

A staggering heartbreak

When your love

Goes to waste

Or should I say

When fate finds a place to stay

You are not your addiction

It is a pesky addition

Like a back pain

You are not the pain

Yet you feel every twinge

You were tempted

When it beckoned

That does not

Make you weak

I reckon

You had things to say

To scream

Then feeling like you could not speak

You are not the guilt

You are not the shame

You are not the pain

You are not your addiction

You are not your addiction.
