Work Done Well

Gary Edward Geraci

Purest infant born to

Mary; mother dressed you,

Carried, taught; you blessed her

From a humble manger.

Human growing, loving

Godhead here for saving

Mankind caught in sinful

Acts set through prideful

Habits. Joseph’s workshop

Kept him busy, backdrop

For your constant, mission.

Working, praying, hands on

Helping father earn a

Noble living, each day,

Building greater virtue.

Knowledge shared by you two

Blessed this household’s family.

Kindness for our Lady

Keeping house and marriage

Holy, poor, but privileged.

Traveled to the Temple,

Mixed with crowds of people,

Asking lots of questions,

Learned, Rabbi sessions.

Lost to parents, three days

Hectic searching; new ways:

Finding Jesus through works:

Student, sweep, and shop clerk.

Honest work is holy,

Slowly done but wholly.

Better part of life foiled?

Nonsense, Son of God toiled!

    Good write Gary.
Yes, 'carpenters' son' reminds us of the humanity of Jesus. Though it was a bit of a derogatory title, I read somewhere.
If we only, or mainly, see church members in actual church building, we may start thinking that they live there - in the church building!

Sounds like we are being asked to take Christ out into the workplace then - not as an intrusive arm of the Church in sectarian affairs - but as Christ - like (to the best of our fallen natures) people in a world starving for authentic Christ-like love. A great mission if you ask me. The mission to love others ...

Thanks Gary. Well, the Vicar/Minister only works one day a week, Sundays, as they say, so he/she needs helpers! Erm, I not quite got the hang of mission here. lol. On the other hand, he/she does it all in some churches, and the congregation just spectate.
