THE DEEPER MY WOUNDS THE STRONGER MY RESOLVE

THE DEEPER MY WOUNDS THE STRONGER MY RESOLVE

                                                       By Jimmy Walker

Often one may feel the past experiences that left scars and wounds to the soul

Once my Grandmother told me of her tough hands, bruised knees from picking cotton

And the pain of working from sun rise to sunset, the deeper her wounds, the stronger her resolve

to overcome a harsh life in segregated South

She decided to think less of daily tolling but, giving praise God

The deeper my wounds, the stronger my resolve

To be closer to God

For years without realizing the fall

which caused me to not want to run this race because of the color of my face

I felt I had no place nor reason to run a race toward a better place

Alone in the frigid weather abased in disgrace for emotion’s warring within

The deeper my wounds, the stronger my resolve

It took years to realize I had wasted previous moments

Just to now, with faith to resolve the greater being from deep within

The deeper my wounds, the stronger my resolve

In hindsight all it took was for self-introspection and positive reflection

To dispel the deeper wounds and weaker thoughts of complexion.

To conquer the inferior deep wounds to evolve to a stronger human being.
