Stalingrad

Samer Amin

In proportion to anyone's strength, trials come.

In the eyes of the mighty ones, the huge trials seem trivial,

but in the eyes of the weak ones, the trivial trials seem huge ones.

The way we react to adversities makes us able to explore new potentialities within ourselves.

Maybe we have underestimated or overestimated our potentialities,

but the fire of trials will extract the steel from the iron ore,

and make us able to fathom the untrodden paths within our psyches.

Under the siege of hardships and adversities, our stubborn resistance to surrender,

will chisel a new form of heroism and bravery deep into our souls.

Under siege, the firmly established houses on rocks cannot be shaken that easily,

and the newborn hero will stand taller in the battlefield than before.

Under siege, under the rains of fire, and above the shaking earth,

Under siege, under the bombardment of shells, and above the streams of blood,

Under siege, under the impact of hunger, and above the frozen land,

Under siege, under the impact of dire horror, and above the corpses of the beloved ones,

Under siege, every living soul would flee, bolt, scram, skedaddle, but the real men would stay.

Heroic write, Samer. The words scram and skedaddle I would not associate with you somehow.

      Thank you so much Jerry!

Your beautiful and encouraging comment always makes me feel so happy and glad.

I truly appreciate the war cry element's in this galvanising read. I can only imagine how deep your inspiration for this write must be..
but, my insightful friend let's not be too harsh on those who lack some of that gusto you're calling for in your last line, sadly
we're all built differently and 'real men' come in all shapes and sizes of bravery and loyalty,
you see some, have spent all their lives - surviving, just so they can be the hero: in their homes,
so yes they'll choose to skedaddle and scrape a pathetic path - back, into to the arms of those family members, who have no one else..
a wonderful read dear poet, and a moving tribute to those brave heroes who sacrificed themselves in the name of freedom

Thank you very much, dear brother, for your exceptionally wonderful comment.

To be honest, I totally agree with you, word for word, on your beautiful definition of the true meaning of Heroism.

In fact, I used to see the story of Stalingrad as the story of any human being who refuses to surrender to defeat or enslavement, because it contains all the elements of determination and sheer courage any human being can possess.

I usually resort to symbolism and metaphor in my writing, as in most literary discourses, and not just to the superficial values of my lines.

This is why these lines are not about a war cry or something like that.

It is just an allegory of human resistance and unwillingness to give in to any extremely destructive circumstances.

Thank you again dear brother for your very nice analysis and comment.
