A Life Blessed with Love

Accidental Poet

Life for me began in the

Loving arms of my birthmother

Only to be stolen away

Raised in loving arms of another

Both my mothers

A secure place within my heart

A place earned with love

And from them I’ll never part

At the start of 5th grade in school

A new kind of love I found

The magnet pull I’d never known

A feeling between the stars and ground

The feeling of being ravished

As this new love devoured me

Consumed with elation

Never so happy

All this

From a young girl’s smile

Oh, how my heart fell in first love

Unmatched on countless sundials

Now, many years have passed

Since that very first day

And at sixty-four years old

Still, I feel the same way

Where she is today, I know not

But she’s the love of my life

In a life blessed with love

Whether or not my wife

  • Comment from author about the poem: Many a man has scoffed at the thought of being a romantic. But love for one woman will be his biggest weakness, while also his greatest strength. Sharon taught me this over the last 53 years.
