The Uneducated O.A.P

Plant a tree to remember me

Don't bother with lettered cold stone

Graveyards of trees

With  fluttering leaves

Are better than lying alone

Overgrown headstones with illegible read

Needles and beer cans among the weed

Forgotten people of times gone by

Tear stained cheeks, dry from the cry

Forests of remembrance, walk amongst souls

Waiting for loved ones, to become again whole

My dying eyes will see the ones I love best

Then, guided by the winds to my place of rest

I'ii wait for you

I know you'll wait for me

Lets surf the winds together

Soulmates, drifting, free.

I'm one who feels our mortal death is not the end for our spirit as you will know from my previous comments about evaporated milk etc.

But thank you for this opportunity to blame you and yer missus for someday polluting our earths atmosphere with your stinking burning flesh and bones and sunday best bib and tucker funeral garb.
I'll vote for a hole in the ground in a cardboard box to give my stardust carbon body back to the soil.

On a lighter note (LOL) are you gonna have yer ashes scattered along the towpath of that sharpness canal or is that Brean down in the picture?

    • The Uneducated O.A.P

Why don't you say what ya feel dusk, always rely on you to say it how it is.,lol and lol.
Ain't t got a Sunday best or a whistle, Matalan man or Tescos tosser that's me.
You're right about the towpath though, that's where the wife lived when we first met, no, not on the towpath, obviously, in a bungalow.
As to your "stardust body" going in the ground, we are running out of space yo put people at least planting a tree will replace some of the oxygen we useless humans used up in our time on this beautiful earth.
No, it's not Bream, it's got sea n the photo, not mud. and there ain' t no idiot drivers looking at their cars stuck up to the axles in the afore mentioned stuff.
Can' t remember where it is at the mo, somewhere near the coast I think! I put the picky in cos that's where we really need to be.
Thanks for lookin in, love yer comments. Keep em coming.

Stuff it, once I've carked it they can do what they like with my remnants.
I've had enough. Here, in Australia I attempted to bequeath my corpse to science – university, to be specific. Guess what ? Not accepted because I was resident in UK during the mad cow era and thus a health risk. My protestations that I was vegetarian then (as now) carried no weight whatsoever.
      Verse had me in, though.
      Thanks Bill

      • The Uneducated O.A.P

Thanks Dave, University's loss, they obviously don't appreciate the finer things in life. I dunno about mad cow decease I think it's sent humans a bit nuts too, can't be doin with most of them any more, but then, perhaps that's just me,
        Thanks for looking in

Hey Bill – in my response I got sidetracked on the issue of disposal and didn’t pay enough attention to your actual work – which I felt had much depth and interest.
Don’t knock graveyards completely though – Here in Sydney one of our cemeteries has an old Victorian section full of gothic architecture and some great headstone stories, trees and wild nature as well. I visited there every now and again, enjoyed the peace. Don’t go anymore as I’m afraid someone will see me exiting, lock the gates, tell me to go back where I was put and lie down…

Good words Bill, when I pass I amd going to be burned and my ashes and my wifes (sitting on a sideboard near me) will be combined and sprinkled onto Our River so we will sail to eternity together.

Thanks Andy, may we all rejoin our loved ones, but not just yet.
Have a good summer on the green.

Bill, this poem is not only beautiful and poignant but also reflects exactly how I feel. Brilliantly well worded.
