The One

Accidental Poet

Without knowing it

You were destined to fall

For the love of your life

Your heart tattooed eternal

Whether your first

Or farther down the line

Without a doubt

None so fine

No one else in all the world

Has reached your heart’s core

To make you glow from within

The only key to your heart’s door

The only one

Your heart truly belongs to

The one you’d give your life for

With your last words, “I love you”

You’ll pen countless poems

And never run out of words

Your heart glows from

An angel’s voice you heard

A smile like no other

Eyes that sparkle like the sun

The only name in your heart

The one

Well, when one pens a love poem it's often way too unambiguous and saccharine, as maybe they must be... but you blew me away with this unexpected admission:

        Whether your first
        Or farther down the line

        Keep swiping left I guess!

Thank you jarcher, this one comes from over 50 years of being in love with the girl I had in my 5th grade class in 1967. Sometimes love is meant to be even if the two individuals don't end up together. I knew when she left that I'd probably never see her again, but she left such an impression on me that my heart has been her home away from home ever since. Thanks for the read and comment. ; ) AP.

I had a similar experience... a girl from Leicester stayed with her grandparents for one school year in central Texas when I was in 5th Grade (1964-65). We went to the movies a few times and held hands, and shared a malt at the drug store after school now and then. I was lost when she went back to the UK... we were pen pals for a while but it just faded at some point. I've been in love with Joanne J ever since... sigh.

Because I know your love for your wife is paralleled to my love for Sharon, is one of the inspirations for writing this one Andy. With many people, love comes and love goes and people can let go without much emotion. But in some rare cases love comes over someone or two people together and it is a lifelong relationship. You Andy were even able to marry the love of your life which I believe to be one of the greatest gifts one could ask for. I had Sharon in my life for four years and she had to move away. But she also stayed in the core of my heart ever since. I can sense your wife smiling down on you right now. Thanks for the read and comment Andy. ; )
