The Boy That Lost His Hat

Harry Atkinson

Friendly favours

Refreshing the faces

Some may say jogging the memory

Greetings to you

In this building filled with hundreds of thousands of thoughts

A familiar feature or two

Who shakes the hand

Of the little boy without his hat

A few paces

Near

To him, you’re further away than you have ever been before

Wandering down this unfamiliar side

For some fish and chips

A quick battering

Upon this street

You know how I mean

Everyone that I greet

Even without the eyes

That help us to see

The scent would be enough

Always

To heighten my absorption

Always

Pages now fat

The boy that lost his hat

Come back

Come back

Harry, I am still trying to figure out what I like about your poems. They are certainly original and interesting curiosities that seem both totally original and yet hauntingly familiar.

But one thing I know: your poems have the best titles. Charm of the Scoundrel was my favorite until this! Thanks for sharing these.
