Walking barefoot along the
well trodden paths,
Surrounded by the dense foliage
of the banyan trees,
Immersed in the holy ambience
of this beautiful Temple,
I am at peace with myself.
The dusk is lit up
with a thousand oil lamps,
the air thick with the fragrance
of incense sticks,
reverberating with the sound of drums,
the Temple bells and blowing conch.
The flickering light of the oil lamps
light up the sanctum,
I see the Lord,
the radiance that shines forth,
And I bow my head
before the Almighty.

- Comment from author about the poem: The inspiration for this poem is the Temple in my hometown, Thrissur. Vadakkumnathan Temple, where Lord Shiva is worshipped. He is the Supreme Lord who creates, protects and transforms the Universe, according to Hindu beliefs. In my mother tongue Malayalam, Vadakkumnathan, literally translated , means Lord of the North. To the North lies the Himalayas, Lord Shiva's abode ,hence the name. This Temple is more than 1000 years old and is a heritage site. UNESCO has awarded the Asia Pacific Heritage award to this Temple. The famous Thrissur Pooram (An annual festival, where almost 30 elephants are paraded ) is also conducted in front of this Temple. This Temple is a part of me and my life.

Thank you.
Thank you. It's a serene and beautiful Temple spread over 9 acres. Glad that you felt good reading it.
I visited this temple in 2008. It was a magical experience.
Yes, it is magical.
