Then, Now, and Then

H.R.Powell

Today Is here

It is now

It is in my hands

And tomorrow is so close

I can hear the sound

Of tomorrow

it is almost here

And we’ve already forgotten

About yesterday

But tomorrow is so close

And the day after tomorrow

Is so terribly far away

So let’s not plan for then

And let’s forget the past

And let’s disregard the present

In our tender palms

For the future is almost here

  • Comment from author about the poem: This was another really spontaneous poem with not a lot of planning or forethought, the meaning behind it being how quickly we are ready to move on to the next "thing" in our lives. A lot of people, including myself, find themselves looking forward to things, only to be underwhelmed when the time comes, and find themselves looking for another thing to hope for.

The past remembered only inasmuch as there were lessons learned; the present lived for the moment; all future plans provisional only.
I'm sure you are not quite as lost as you make out, HR.

Lovely but relative poem. Time is a funny old thing and based on ones perception of it.
