The mercury is melting

Orison

The mercury is melting
oh wait! its already a liquid
only its rising and rising
in its domed glass casing

As we mumble and fumble
making sense of this jumble
Shouting that its chaos
That the world is going to crumble

We count our sins and repent
praying for one more chance
a promise to change for better
to make it through and make amends

And then some rain, some shade
some sense of comfort
and we return to our old ways
forgetting the sweltering days

The mercury in its casing
Neither knows nor cares
