What Happened?

she_was_torture

She sits on the outside looking in.

Breath fogging up the glass.

Around her, it starts to rain.

hit, hit, hit.

the water droplets pound down on her head

and soon,

she's soaked.

her clothes mold to her,

weighing her body down.

When she drops her head, she hears laughter coming from inside.

It's muffled but she can hear it all the same-

It's the sound of happy people.

People who have their lives together,

People who have someone to go home to at night and rant about their crazy day.

When she was young, she had that.

But don't all children?

At some point, all children have that happy family that's full of love and promise.

Because children are so innocent.

But looking back.... when did it stop?

What happened that now she is a depressed teenager who gets stressed out at little things such as what she's going to have for dinner,

or wondering if her mom is going to come home late- believing something bad probably happened when, really,

she just got held up at work, or had to stop and get gas.

What happened?

In her memory, nothing sticks out....

She just grew up.

wonderful effortless flow, tone and unflinching vulnerability
this is such a relatable read, thanks for sharing dear poet
(just be weary of that overt dramatization, pitfall
but that's just my rude opinion, free for you to ignore)
