The Real Me

Dipanwita Dey

Look into the mirror
And tell me who do you see,
Is it  someone you love or the way they make you see,

The Mirror will never lie, it knows only the truth,
Unveil the cover and see what is true...

You are in a wrong frame, with an unfeigned soul,
Behind the long curly hair and pink dress
You filled inside with colour blue,
there is sadness in your eyes,
there is a stranger in your body,

You want to scream out loud,
I am not too feminine to be a boy,
Not too pinky to be coloured blue,
I'm a teenager, who want to embrace
"THE REAL ME",
"THE REAL ME"

  • Comment from author about the poem: This poem is about a teenager's certain realisation about her sexual reality. She is discovering her male entity while feeling trapped in a body she never wants to have. She's in a dilemma whether to carry forward the “she” part or to unveil her own persona......

Oh get on with life....Depending on what chromosomal arrangement and which which genitalia you have, provided they are in alignment, then stay with it.
What you are responding to are the superficialities that society imposes upon people with respect to gender.
I appreciate that your society might be more strict than mine, so all i can advise is to live with it, become a pioneer and subvert or get out.
