Wasted

rebmasters

Love is wasted on youth,
love is wasted on you.
In full, radiant bloom,
agonisingly yours for the taking;
one blade among many in the long grass.
Magnify my memory &
keep me alive;
it’s a choice.
What am I in your mind?
Something dark, obscure, free,
something to fight;
you against me.
Why do I write love letters never sent?
A message hurled into a void again.
I don’t want an eternity of stars
til they fall & shatter,
burn up & don’t matter;
only right now.
Only I can’t grasp it,
can’t define it;
it slips through my fingers like mist
& all I’m left looking at is the past.
Are we too selfish to love each other?

    So much to unpack, words of love, loss and fear to love again tightly woven into a subtle soliloquy of pain and longing. Can't get enough It's inspiring.

      Thank you my dear. Been thinking how love is good/bad, ugly/beautiful & selfless/selfish. It's so hard to navigate your own feelings, let alone someone else's. But the beautiful moments make it worthwhile. Or do they? Idk

        No one can really quantify love let alone describe it, if it were that easy then alot of poets and writers would be out of jobs XD. But I can tell in the way you write that it's sincere. You can have all the beautiful moments you want but it's easier to fall out of love than it is to maintain it as long as you're honest with your feelings love finds a way.

          Thank you xx. There's a song I like that kind of inspired it that goes:

          'Do you know what stars are?
          Balls on fire,
          burning up the black space,
          falling from the landscape,
          exploding in the face of God.'

          Beautiful (plus 'balls on fire makes me giggle)

            Are we too selfish to love each other

            Brilliantly perceptive line. Another great one Reb

              Thank you. A rhetorical question, but I think in this particular case, the answer might be yes ☹

                Of course we are. We are human
