Man + Machine = Champion

Accidental Poet

The 24 hours of Le Mans

June 18-19, 1966

4 P.M. Saturday to 4 P.M. Sunday

A grueling race while the clock ticks

Ken Miles was the man

Ford GT 40 # 1 was the car

Hard to say which

Was the bigger star

Assigned to Ford GT 40

The racing # 1

Possibly foretold

The true winner won

Ferrari against Ford

Bandini against Miles

Lap after punishing lap

The # 1 Ford smiles

Miles breaking the lap record

At a blistering pace

Passing all in his way

Commanding the race

Teammate McLaren in # 2 Ford

On the same lap

Would end up winning the race

By a technicality slap

Because McLaren started farther back

It was determined he won

But the real champion

Ken Miles in the Ford # 1
