Dear Love

Pacifique Niyitanga

They said you're a remedy;
A holy gift from God;
A real sign of humanity;
And crucial than our money.

You are lord to the brains;
Warm to the frozen hearts,
Beautiful mate to the souls,
And sweetness of the life.

You are a pal to the mercy,
Founder of kindness,
One best shape of peace,
And the source of friendships.

People enjoyed you than wines;
Praised you than ancient gods;
Wrote about you than sciences;
And they always sing about you.

But why are you so wild?
You are the weapon to the liars,
Cheaters lay under your covers,
And hearts are broken in your name!

Love, why do you fool minds?
You poison hearts with feelings,
Depress souls with endless desires,
And blind the eyes with fake promises.

You are evergreen but so rare, why?
Bliss comes from you, and so does misery.
Pretty smile is yours, but tears are behind;
And none of your benefits are easy to own.

Why can't you skip hurting?
We keep on nurturing you, but you deceive us.
But we cannot deny you; we really need you,
And no one is to blame you-it is all our faults.
