That Line

Not absent - still here!

"Nothing About Us Without Us” – that line

New to me, sums up all we know and see:

Decisions from a sham democracy

Limit our rights then with red tape define.

More power, a voice for all, we agree;

History which covers six centuries

Calls for ownership of our destinies,

The right to consultation is our plea.

No unfair judgments made: please hear the call -

We demand a future; do not prevent.

Rioting can result from discontent

When decrees include a justice shortfall

As those without resources to appeal

Are outbid by the wealthy with a deal.

  • Comment from author about the poem: Sonnet form – Loosely Petrachian (Rhymes for the first two quatrains don’t align, but should) with a slightly Shakespearean ‘turn’ and finale. Sorry – no ‘love’ was lost or found in the making of this sonnet. (Wailing and gnashing of teeth from the audience?).

Abso-bloody-lutely - whoever built that line was a poet supremo. That need is well served.
      Thanks Neville.

Here here, I agree such frustration from the present system yet what other works any better. "There's the rub"

Don't have to look to another totally different system, Soren.
Analogy: Two cars - one, an old banger, punctured tyres leaking radiator; other, sleek smooth running piece of mechanical art.
        Both cars...
