To Mars or Bust

Don the Spacesuit (Senryu)

on space station earth
masks now obligatory
no life fully free

To Mars or Bust

Done with "Liven in the Lockdown"
We've sold up all our worldly stuff.
We're off tomorrow,
on our other worldly adventure,
our one-way migration to
"Habitat One", Utopia Crater, Mars.

Picked up a nice little condo pad
built 3D from local mud and water.
The 99 Mars year lease should see us out,
as Martian year is twice that on Earth.
This means we are guaranteed to live
twice as long on Mars as well.
Unreal Bonus there!

The Mars Terraforming is going
exceedingly well, should be done and dusted real soon.
It will soon be Just like Earth used to be without the virus.
So, 'tis Real Good News, buddy!
The Mars Realty agent guaranteed
that in five Martian years,
all Us Newbie Martians will
be able to venture out, free as a bird,
and walk among the Martian trees
sucking in the fresh clean air,
without space suits or helmets.
Can't wait. Clean and virus-free air at last!

Best of all we picked up
Elon Musk's used 'Starship 1'
on Ebay for a song.
"Only One Owner!"
"Only Done one Trip into Space!"
"Billionaire accessories and decor"
What a steal!
It only needs to get us there, One Way.
So, one more sleep to go!
See Yah, All!

  • Comment from author about the poem: Hope for herd immunity even when majority fully vaccinated appears to be gone. Infection rate of vaccinated is still 30% of those unvaccinated. So a full and free life can no longer be lived on Planet Earth, perfectly safely without masks and social distancing. Our life is encumbered, constrained, restricted. It depends on the level of risk that each individual is willing to live with going forward. Effectively Earth is now contaminated space that requires the wearing of spacesuits, for the time being, perhaps for eons to come.

An entertaining write, John. My guess is you have or still enjoy science fiction. Nothing like some witty irony to flavour the dish either.

'Best of all we picked up

      "Only One Owner!"
(here's my question? bare with me, Please
      if the 'Anti'-virus vaccination
doesn't prevent you from getting it?
      only prevents you from suffering
the Fatal worst of its illness?
exactly, what does it matter if we
get a Worldwide 100% vaccination rate?
surely it will only take, One loose
Bat - out of Laboratory, Hell
for us to all 'Get-it', once again...
so then, why blame the unvaccinated
      for an 'Anti-virus' solution
that clearly, has limitations in effectivity?
      Maybe, you think
if we're all running around pointing fingers
the government will assume, we'll ignore
      they're injecting us
with nothing more than watered-down: antibiotics
rather than formulating, a Truly effective
      'Anti'-virus, solution?
Is this the Zealotry in modernity's Worship
      of all things Science, maybe...)
lol, thanks for sharing such a fun read
and inspiring my little scribbled reply

Nytimes editorial today => 'We know that masks work. That vaccines work. That mandates work.' ..The unvaccinated are the scapegoats = someone to blame. Reality => Covid is here to stay, Stay safe by self-imposed restrictions (spacesuits). Get me outta here!

Mars is not far enough, but for now your comforting words will do.

        • flyingfish

          All the best. Cheers
