to look

rebmasters

I told you I can’t lie,
but you know that I hide
something from you.

It’s no secret;
it is replete
behind my eyes.

My mouth may not yet speak
the words,
but you’ve already heard

their echoes like
birds awake before dawn,
nesting in the wild warm

of your chest &
neck, against which I press;
sulking for a caress.

I don’t need to tell you;
you’ve read it in my words,
the actor’s voice unheard;

stripped bare,
you’ll find it there,
if you just care

    'the actor’s voice unheard;

    stripped bare,
    you’ll find it there,
    *if you, just
    loved me enough*

    to care'..
    I cherish the pacing you've managed to weave
    and laud, your tone of vulnerable boldness
    as-if, you're crystallising that moment
    in words, so as to shed your frustrations
    in a relationship, that's chained itself to you
    unrelentingly, tight..
    (and worded so accessible
    this was such a relatable read for me
    thanks for sharing, dear poet)

      😉 Ah yes, that dreamy, dark, delicious & deadly word: love. I was going for a gentle tone rather than anything reproachful. After all, Auden was right when he said "let the more loving one be me." I'm glad you found something relatable in it my dear x
