The Honeybee

Classicmister

Today I watched the honeybee

Engaged upon his gathering spree

From rose to buddleia he flies

To gather his sweet pollen prize

Darting here and fluttering there

Hoping there’s enough to spare

Betwixt the petals he will dive

Then homeward to his warm beehive

He’s not a drone but worker bee

Serving with the bee army

Toiling most when days are sunny

To swell the stores of wholesome honey

Unstintingly he serves his   Queen

That matriarch so rarely seen

His life has all too short a span

It’s over just days from when began

He’s vital for the pollination

Of the food that feeds the nation

Without his work mankind would famish

Pray God bees stay and never vanish
