The Light In Her Black

Daniella Umeh

The most beautiful blue sky comes after a day of rain,
The most beautiful art comes from a place of pain.
But this beautiful skin holds more power than a king will know,
Oh! The poetry that resides in her glow.
Shadows envy her complexion,
Mirrors can’t perfect this perfection,
The only thing closest to her reflection,
Is chocolate and caramel half-eaten by a fraction.
If only someone could trade eyes with me,
To see the beauty in her melanin.
The complexity in her complexion,
Comes with undying attraction.
Her skin is not only dark;
It shines and tells her story.
