Sleep #2

rebmasters

I’m starting to drift into sleep
when I think of you, sweet.
You make me want to stay awake,
like a soft sheep;
a creature that needs the least sleep.
I wonder why we started counting them?
An ancient way
to make sure there weren’t any strays,
so shepherds didn’t lose their sleep
under stars in the otherwise dark sky,
where bright angels appear;
like you, my dear.
How can I close my eyes?
