IT IS RAINING AGAIN

Adeola Akande

The gentle breeze blows

Not with might, nor force

Just a message to pass across

In a language which everyone knows

The cloud moves across the sky

Gently, slowly all along

As the pigeon sings its song

Again and again as if to cry

A deafening sound now and then

‘tis of thunder I have no doubt

Bus passengers rush in and out

As nervous mothers call out to their children

At last the rain has come

And everyone will be glad I thought

That was a mistake of some sort;

For the rain is a distress to some

As drizzle turns torrent in a twinkle

And the morning after - a different story

The collapse of a store and a two-storey

Gardens flooded; road turned pool

And in their faces you could see the pain

Fear and sadness flooding the heart

But there’s one thing we all agreed about

It is raining again!
