L. B. Mek

of Sweetness

‘Inflation Precipice’, fearmongering headlines.

‘Death, be not proud’, poetry.

‘Love island TV’, pixelated zoo’s

‘COVID here to stay’, reality.

‘Zhengzhou & New York flooding’, nature’s frustrations

but,

my ultra-HD blinkered VPN

can only identify: clear skies - obstinately

in each, bleak horizon

they’re trying to bludgeon us with.

Divisive warmongering, polarising politics

as all-consuming lead story, tannoy vomit

yet, all me and you care about

are scrolling footnotes

of tomorrow’s, weather forecasts.

‘No rain!’ We text – in sync

let’s head to that spot, we talked about

we’ll break out, to break-in

those new matching t-shirts, we dyed ourselves

last weekend;

excitement, in every notification

‘no you, hang-up’

as our daily nightcaps

grinning wide, at 6am

like, it’s a mandatory requirement.

Sweetness of life, in each ‘Woosah’

of attraction’s meditative, tingly skin

and these are just, preview highlights

before

we’re back, at each other’s side.

I see you, waiting

by your doorstep

smiling, I park

far too close to the kerb, and wave

even before you close the car door, we hug

because, we’ve

got our priorities: right;

I let my eyes, serenade you

with a million love poems

‘stop it’, you blush: ‘never!’ I promise.

We begin

as passing sirens, accompany

blaring obscenely, alarmingly

but

we still hear every syllable, shared

in our engrossing conversation

about, work stresses and lunch breaks;

you’re laughing

all-teeth brimming

hair - like personality, let-loose

flowing free

we’re vibing, gliding

with no need for music’s

mood setting.

Later, as I hold you tight

you ask about: Time

I whisper a lover’s, reply

one more minute, just

one more blink

one more, synchronised

heartbeat…

Let’s cherish - us

my Truth, my Escape, my Love

in these moments of sweetness;

no words - just lips

and nourishing warmth, seeping deep

blossoming love

ever-Sweet!

mmmm living - loving it! Who needs some remote newswriters agenda when important stuff like life is on hand.

Love the way you've framed this with it's great intro.

    • L. B. Mek

      'mmmm living - loving it!'
      what a perfect wording, and
'important stuff like life: is on hand!'
      Indeed, dear Poet
so very true, thank you! Dusk
for such a considered and emotive comment
perfectly magnifying what I was trying to convey.

    • Teddy.15

Dear L.B your poetic heart has once again showered us with a glorious thought about just loving life as it is our greatest gift, i cannot help but think this is for a particular lady in your life it's got a romantic tone so elegant.

I let my eyes, serenade you

      with a million love poems

‘stop it’, you blush: ‘never!’ I promise.

      We begin

      as passing sirens, accompany

      blaring obscenely, alarmingly

      but

we still hear every syllable, shared

      in our engrossing conversation

      about, work stresses and lunch breaks;

love these lines, but i just enjoy all your writes, filled with positivity and wisdom. kudos from me my dear poet friend.

      • L. B. Mek

        Awesome!
now please excuse me, while I put ice on my cheeks..
thank you! you sweet generous soul of a poetess
I think your write yesterday 'A chance meeting with luck'
and this one, reflect that same ambition
to mine worthwhile, meaning out of life
whatever our current circumstances may be
and that's a truism we need to keep alive
in this ever challenging, 'age of anxiety'
        we're traversing

        • Teddy.15

sending my heart over to you dear Mek, dreams can't be trodden on unless we move our own protective foot out the way!

        • Neville

Promise me .. nah, promise us you will never tinker, jiggle or revise a single word ......................................21st century poetry has just come of age damn it ..

          • L. B. Mek

            lmao
            all ultar vpn DH,
            that's search engine optimisation lingo
            if you will 🤣
21st century poetry? is exotic surnames
utilised to sale a book of character limited
'sharing, of soulfully abound worded orifices'
with titles like honey in it...
sale millions of copies, and not have a single line
            worth quoting in it... 🤐
but hey, if its garnered popularity - its a class act!
            ah, now I see
so that's where, modernity's democracy evolved from
as always, Blame it all on the poetry!
            (sorry for that unexpected rant
must have been wanting to unleash that
            for a while,
            forgive me, my friend)
            but in all seriousness
with heartfelt sincerity, I thank you!

          • Fay Slimm.

This write is so special I want it to read every time I need a dose of tonic as it brims with right attitude on life my friend. Agree too with Neville this is 21st century poetry at its very best.

            • L. B. Mek

              that's got your approval!
              you've given me the confidence
to try and share a few more now
              thank you! dear Fay

              • L. B. Mek

                luckily you're all sweet toothed
admittedly, I borrowed some of your positivity
and let my cynical side, rest for a bit.. lol
                thanks Andy

              • John Prophet

                Great write LBM

                • L. B. Mek

                  thank you! dear poet
                  glad you enjoyed the read

                • myself and me

The sweetness of love conquered all the bitterness in life. A unique piece to enjoy.

                  • L. B. Mek

                    perfectly summarised!
that's the wondrous nature of love, I think
                    its capacity to overcome, anything...
thank you! for investing the time
to engage with my humble write, so meaningfully

                  • aDarkerMind

                  • aDarkerMind

has the applause for this finished yet L B ?

                    i doubt it!

                    • L. B. Mek

if a talent of your calibre adds
                      even a single handed, clap
then we all gain a bit more credibility I think, dear Poet
                      I'm humbled and so grateful
