Fear Not One So Young

Accidental Poet

December 11, 1956

At long last, today is the day you are born

A Mother with newborn boy in mid-December early morn

The twinkle that shines from her eyes so blue

Is matched only by the love in her heart for you

She will capture this moment in her heart

Nine months ago, this bond of love did start

She gave you your name out of love

Your Mother’s heart you’ll always be part of

Look upon her face and eyes of blue

For in your mirror, she’ll always look back at you

Your time together for now must end

Love from Heaven, to you she’ll always send

Many a tear for many a year on you she’ll cry

But only when alone, the tears she can’t hide

Fear not one so young

The love song you both know will not go unsung

Though you may shed your own share of tears

And have troubled times through the years

Your Mother loves you still

So much love for you, your heart she’ll fill

Wish I could show to you the way

Insure to you, a brighter day

For I know the pain that will come to be

Same as you, she’s always loved me

I am your future, and you my past

Our Mother’s love will always last

All I can say is someday we’ll be as one

Fear not, one so young

  • Comment from author about the poem: From Sax – “So my challenge to you is to write a response to your younger self.....” From Accidental Poet – “Challenge accepted Sax, I like the idea.” I actually wrote this many years ago when I first began to write poetry. It was these emotions I was going through that awoke my poetic Muse, and I’ve been grateful ever since.

A great idea to write to a young self and your pen sorted the moments you cannot forget so aptly A.P. - - a wonderful read and the line I found most enchanting was "The love song you both know will not go unsung" - - thank you for meeting the challenge so well.

Thanks Fay. Yes, I'm glad Sax made the challenge, it was a great idea. And ironically I had written this one many years ago. 😊
