A September Afternoon

Jayasree

The golden rays of the

afternoon sun

falls through

the sun dappled trees

The dragonflies glide

soaking up the sunlight

their transparent wings

coloured golden

enjoying their

tiny moment of happiness...

The air heavy

with the fragrance

of jasmine flowers;

drowsy with the

buzzing of the bees.

The earth still, somnolent

under the afternoon sun...

And even in the stillness

there is life.

  • Comment from author about the poem: Here in Kerala, it's the Malayalam month of "Chingam" now, officially spring. Our festival Onam is celebrated during this month. The Earth has a freshly washed look after the monsoon rains and is beautiful with lots of blooming flowers, butterflies, bees and dragonflies. The sunlight at this time is golden and pure with an ethereal light, that, I just had to write this poem . I can see the dragonflies gliding in the sunlight outside, their transparent wings shining.

Lovely picture you paint here in both your poem and your author's comment.
Here in U.K. Septenber feels colder than is normal so it was warming to read your words this morning.
