Lying to Oneself

Trenz Pruca

Lying to oneself seems
Necessary for survival.
It’s natures compensation
To those she has cursed
With consciousness.
How else could anyone
Make it through puberty?

    Puberty? The memory grows dim...mercifully...
You raise an interesting proposition though, Trenz: It must be consciousness which manufactures the lies, but would also be aware that they are lies.....

      Thank you Dave.

        maybe through ignorance, dear poet?
we make it through, by not knowing half of what we're doing, and by wilfully choosing to ignore - our awareness of the other half..
consciousness, is rarely seen at puberty stages, at best we gain some awareness of wrongfulness
but we lack the complexity to categorise what that wrongness constitutes to us, personally..
this is how nature plans it, this is how humanity became the ruling species on earth, because we allowed ourselves to evolve as sponges to experience
and its by living through and surviving our mistakes, we gain the capacity to cultivate our empathetic consciousness, in most
as a by-product to all those belatedly regretted: conscious realisation,
that in turn - over time, when utilised proactively, help us
        create some semblance of wisdom..
that's the cause and effect in our life of suffering
        sadly, nature knows
we learn more, from the pain we survive, that the triumph's we're gifted...
        (sorry dear poet
your write got me started on another opinionated ramble
        forgive my rudeness,
hopefully you see it as a sign of how impactful your words were to read)
        thanks for sharing, dear poet
