Teddy.15

Falling into a Dream

On the Venetian streets

I have yet to tread

But even I, dare to dream

Dreaming of the day I do

I will just lean out

At the end of one of the piers

off the Grand Canal

Where the sight

Of every great romance

Can been witnessed

 On a Gondola

Each and every evening at sunset

I wonder could a poetess

Actually afford a gondola ride?

What about a glass of wine?

Maybe sipped from the Murano glass

She always hears so much about?

Surrounded by

Colorful landscape and gothic beauty

Speed boats filled by the richness

Of a film star wallet’s

And me?  me?

Well, like I said

I can dream can't I?

After all wasn't it Shakespeare

Who wrote about Venice?

He, who never saw with his own eyes

Now I know why, he invented the line

To be or not to be?

Was it to be in Venice?

Wasn't that meant for Hamlet?

The streets painted from his genius mind and vision

A Poet, he too could not afford

To sample the richness

Of a coffee by the canals of love

The Bard a beard and a great imagination

I bet he made a few bucks

In the end though

Didn’t he?

And I, of pure British blood

I expect I shall do something similar

Maybe I'll write my very own play?

About a mad Poetess

Who fell off a Gondola into the arms of

The Ghost of Shakespeare perhaps?

And yes of course

I'll play the leading lady

But wait…

Who would actually catch me?

Your poetic pen is on fire today, dear Teddy and you have produced a truly amazing poem here to delight your reader's poetic taste buds. The icing on the (poetic) cake for me comes in the final line: "Who would actually catch me"? Love it! Love your beautiful complementary graphic! My youngest daughter lived there for two years as an Au Pair and loved Venice very much. The family she took care of at the tender age of 18, still keep in contact with her and have been to Ireland to spend time with her and she also has returned to Venice to spend time with them on a couple of occasions. Venice is beautiful, dear Teddy. I know you would fall in love with it on a visit. You bring many different aspects into your poem and this makes it a truly intriguing read! Wonderful write, dear Teddy. Thank you for sharing. Wishing you a very blessed and beautiful day to enjoy... Happy Wednesday!

Dear Marie, thank you for sharing this beautiful review with me, I am always delighted when other writers enjoy my work so much so thank you, your daughter was so lucky to live in Venice must have been a lifetime experience with a huge amount of inspiration. It's so wonderful to know she still has contact with her family and that it is a part of her life even now. I changed the art work dear Marie, as I found it to work better for this one, I am so truly grateful that you spend so much time writing such detailed Words about my work and of course for your kind eyes ☺️ have a wonderful day my dear friend πŸ’• Thank you.

Most welcome, Teddy. I so enjoyed reading and love your choice of graphic, it does work better! Bless you. Yes, it was a very good experience to have at just 18, after leaving school. She gave up a career in modeling to avail of the opportunity and sadly, she didn't return to modeling again, dear Teddy. Yes, the family are constantly in touch with her. Their surname was Nouvalare and the 'babies' she took care of are now 25 and 23, both little girls then, but grown ups now! Time goes so quickly, dear Teddy. Thank you for your kind greetings. Wishing you a wonderful day filled with poetic inspiration so tomorrow I can read more of your beautiful poetry again, Teddy. Thank you for sharing...πŸ’• (copy and paste again, lol...)

cos'è l'amore. È un'emozione profonda da custodire per sempre e da condividere con chi ne sente il tocco.

A fine, fanciful write, Teddy! I have visited Venice, just once. It truly is a remarkable city - a virtual open-air, living museum. My wife and I took a gondola ride, and then we wandered lazily around Piazza San Marco. We couldn't afford a cappuccino there though - much too dear, especially after paying for the gondola ride! We found a nice little place to have a snack and a drink down a quiet side street. We were staying at Malcesine on Lake Garda, and we visited Venice for the day. A truly beautiful city. I hope to return one day. I hope you get there too one day. Your poem brought back good memories!

Dear Robert, on Friday I shall have my dream and tread those streets and maybe have a gondola ride, for the first time, I am more than excited I cannot stop smiling just a two hour train ride and I'll be there, staying right in the middle of all that. Thank you for your kind visit my friend. 😊

                • Robert Haigh

Glad your dream of visiting Venice is about to come true! I'm sure you'll love it!
