Heart of Babel

War torn or more

Torn asunder

We all march to propaganda

And for violence, hunger

There was a time we were alive

But now we all just slumber

So polluted in our minds

We are beyond encumbered

We are beyond a servant

Less free than slaves

Where they struggled to survive

We dig our own graves

Where their resistance met afflictions

Ours come as we behave

Just submission without question

Of the rights we've waived

Of the lives destroyed

Through these crimes prolonged

Found our home within a system

To which we don't belong

Became patrons of wars

And let them wage, lifelong

While chanting our allegiance

To a culling song

And it is holding strong

It is far from waning

The repetitions of the crowd

Have called out, arraigning

In judgement, always judgement

There is no abstaining

And the world is bleeding out

It is soaked and staining

Martyred, murdered

Maimed and mad

We are psycho-civilized

From a launching pad

Letting hypocrisy erupt

Like we are bombing lands

Exploding with compassion

Of selfish demands

It's a great divide

While baring the same evils

It's a tug-of-war

Where the fighting's gleeful

Where hatred is enamored

With an intent that's lethal

Seeing ally or enemy

Rather than each as people

Propagated and seduced

Discipled and fed

Indoctrination all deciding

What we will defend

You see, there is no family

There are no friends

Just cults by the legions

Of the latest trends

Leading you astray

Won’t you disembark

Won’t you flee from the bindings

Of an endless dark

Start to walk in caution

Guard your heart

From the systems of the world

That would steal your spark

  • Comment from author about the poem: One could say that these things are part of our human nature, but I seek to have us ask the question; if that is truly the case, or is it merely an indoctrination that would have us believe that we are really limited to these shortcomings, a false nature that institutions and systems have convinced us that we are. Because not everything I see happening within society resonates as truth, and the more I ponder, my own heart and aspirations, in evidence of history and current affairs, the less I am convinced that most of which happens within society have any real baring to meaning and purpose, outside of a deliberate means to control and spread fear.
