Hiraeth

Mari[anne]

Do you ever feel weirdly nostalgic?

To just crave for a place you’ve never known yet felt.

It confounds the mind and assaults the heart.

There’s this indescribable emotion that crashes onto you like a wave.

Hitting you with a myriad of sensations as your mind tries to make sense of it all.

It is warmth, nostalgia, happiness and peace.

But it is also longing, sadness and loss.

Longing to go wherever this unknown place is.

Sadness that we only briefly bask in just this moment of overwhelming warmth.

Loss for a home or love lost.

Is it perhaps a remnant of a life long forgotten?

Or is it just a void within us that yearns to be filled?

when we can open ourselves to new influences, because
we've established a concrete anchor of self belief,
the scope of new and pleasant things we can experience in the world is endless
like a word, hidden in a tradition and culture that's so rich
but due to our limitations in connection,
      or simply, our ignorance
      we never knew it existed..
but then, we read or listen
      and we learn and appreciate,
      growing a little bit more
and utilising our capacity to exchange, swap and enrich
each other, with whatever we have to give
      and are open, to receive..
(this is a wonderful showcase of a beautifully meaningful word,
thank you, for introducing me to it)
