The Real Me

daydreaming

Kicking scattered empty cans
Laying across the concrete sidewalk
Waves of red and yellow leaves
Collecting slowly at my feet
I keep walking tired and alone
Like the last surviving soldier
Raising from the smoky rubble
After a long and final battle.

Summer’s over, the fall begins
This weather cycle never ends
Seasons that repeat themselves
But in the end, life stays the same
Then unexpectedly, I feel a breeze
It completely wraps itself around me
And though this boring crazy world
Predictably changes bit by bit
I feel I’m stuck, I can’t move on
No matter how I try and try
I end exactly where I start.

Come to me, sit by my side
Let your presence shine on me
Every time I feel you’re close
No matter if I’m feeling lost
You put me right where I belong
So, let my silence speak out loud
My guard is down this time around
I’ll let you see what no one knows
That part of me no one has seen
It’s time you see once and for all
The man I am, the real me.
