Checkmate, I Win.

CKA

I do miss that smile when your eyes fell on mine,

But I couldn't condone the lies over time.

And now I'm treated as if that's a crime,

For reasons that you won't tell me why.

From secret moments & glances in bars,

I loved you hard,

Yet you broke my heart.

And as my teary eyes closed

The bright sun arose,

Another dawn, another day,

One day closer to feeling no pain?

Darlin' I just hope you know,

That you hurt me most,

But soon, you will reap what you've sown.

As there will be a dawn,

When you will wake up and realise you miss me,

You will feel a pang in your heart and forsake it as I once did,

But when you look on,

By then I will be long gone, having blissful fun,

No longer feeling numb,

And all you will want is one last kiss.

  • Comment from author about the poem: It's hard for me to give a simple explanation of what this poem means to me because I feel it holds a lot of different meanings. I wrote this during a time of trying to make peace with the fact that I had to let this person go and move on. As although I didn't want to, ultimately I knew it was what I needed to do for myself. I believe that moving on from someone is like the process of grief, it's feeling all of the emotions- denial ,anger, bargaining, sadness, and finally acceptance. I think this poem expresses an element of each and shows that although it is not easy, and may not be what you initially want. Doing what's best for you, will eventually pay off and leave you victorious.

Sometimes all it takes is the absence, but by then of course the damage is done.
