The Hungry Beast

Jack Cohen

The beast is hungry
I can hear its moans,

Can feel its pain
as it cries and groans,

"Feed me please"
You know I can't,

"Feed me please"
It continues to chant,

Night and day
it pleads to me,

Every second of every day
it longs to be free,

For I have trapped this hunger
in the bowels of my soul,

Guarding it there
locked and under control,

With every off thought
I can feel it trying to climb,

Up from the dark
still after all this time,

I guess in due time
we can only hope to see,

Who will win the battle
between my will, and the hunger of the beast.

Very well expressed the conflicting thoughts one holds inside
Truly it’s a battle between will and hunger of beast
