O' Daffodil

James Alexander

Awaken o' little daffodil

Shake off your winter's chill.

Bring forth your lustrous hue

Covered with a glistening dew.

Reach out and joyously sing

Of new beginnings of spring

And in pleasing scent fill the air

With a fragrance sweet and fair.

Fill the hillside far and wide

Under trees and by river's sides.

Become a mirror to the sun

Bringing pleasure to everyone.

In my garden though there are few

Each spring they multiply anew

And in my mind's eye

I see their blooms far and wide.
