The Brother Hood

beary1112

Despite all my values, I know I should

Tell you not to join the Brother Hood.

I really don't want to start a fight,

But I don't want you to ruin her life.

I don't want to tell you how to live,

But if brotherhood is the only excuse you give,

I can't let you hurt another innocent soul.

It's tragic that you think it's cool.

A soul was just shattered yesterday,

But you still went out to party today.

In that same building where tragedy struck,

You threw ping pong balls into a red solo cup.

You say you want to join the Brother Hood.

I'd like to believe that you are good,

But if you join that hood of men,

I can no longer be your friend.

  • Comment from author about the poem: "The hood" is defined as a violent neighborhood, and in this case, Brother Hood refers to a violent neighborhood of men, which my university calls Greek Row. Many people also like to think of fraternities as brotherhoods, so haha, pun. Anyways, this poem is about my friend who wants to join a fraternity, despite a series of sexual assault allegations on Greek Row over the years, and still parties with frats, even on the day after a bunch of allegations came out.

An honest friend giving honest good advice. A friend who would rather be honest and lose you than lie and keep you. Well penned.

They sound a shifty lot, to join. Wouldn't trust them as far as I could throw them! lol.
