The Robin

James Alexander

There is a Robin in my garden

searching for grubs and seeds.

And as I watch her pecking about

she curiously peers up at me.

And with a nod of her head

and a final chirp goodbye

she spreads open her wings

and soars up into the sky.

I envy you my dear Robin

traveling the world so free.

If only I could leave this cage

and fly away like thee.
