Roads

James Alexander

roads i have taken

have led me here

in the blink of an eye

in sadness and cheer

some roads were chosen

with infinite care

others sped along

devil-may-care

some were paved

with visions of gold

while others were

long, dark and cold

and of friends i met

all along the way

some will remain

while others stray

to make a choice

which road to take

for good or for ill

i left up to fate

life's destination

is never known

but be assured

all roads lead home

before reaching

my final destination

i will defy all caution

and without reservation

travel down another road

and leave it to the fates

for the only road not yet taken

is the untraveled road that awaits
