After

Jade Wolf

Last summer,
when you were here...
With your warm smiles,
and hugs like a bear...
The nights were balmy,
and the moon was bright...
Your presence alone;
had my heart alight...

Autumn came
and you were gone...
The nights turned dark,
the moon was gone...
The trees shed;
the leaves like tears...
Their crunch beneath feet;
like a wail one hears...

Here's the winter,
my bones are cold...
What of your promise
to have and to hold?
To have you back
to hold me again...
I will make
my soul's bargain...
