Giving my body
Waiting for a sudden change
Though no attempt ever aids
As you taunt me with your eyes
Hiding the truth of your heart

- Comment from author about the poem: In this tanka, I am discussing one-sided relationships, specifically one in which one member is purely involved for lust, though the other has fallen in love. This is written strictly from experiences that I have witnessed in my own lifetime. "Taunt me with your eyes" directly references a young woman who means the world to me, though she intricately dangles vital information just over my head, still out of reach so that I cannot even manage to be sure of the hue of her eyes.

Relationships like this are a minefield.
Only one ending, and usually painful for one of them.
Always painful when two are in a relationship for different reasons. Beautiful Tanka that pulls at the heart strings.
love the wordplay dialectic
between your bravely brazen, title
and the imbued, subtlety
of suggestive inference
you chose
to immerse your poem within;
demonstrating the duality
of confusion, in the mindset
of the poetic voice
you so delicately, unfurl and depict..
(a great write, love the cleverness
and sophistication
while wording it all, accessible and relatable)
thanks for choosing to share, dear poet
