The Mothers We Lost

Garth Rakumakoe

They are with us -

We carry them in our spirits

and constantly mural their faces

on the walls of emptinesses

left before us

Their legacies we carry

within us

In our silences they visit us

In the numb vastness of our nothings

the sound of their voices

never forsakes us

Unendingly, memories

of their vintage masterpieces

forever remain

from the other side

melancholic mighty shipwrecks

that sank in the turbulent expanse

of ached elusive longings

down to the midnight floors

of our hearts' most deepest oceans –

They - are with us

  • Fay Slimm.

Your title drew my attention as it surmounted the worded tribute to mothers who tried their very best to leave us with memories which nothing else could replace. A compelling read dear friend.

    • Garth Rakumakoe

Oh, thank you dear Fay. There is no greater truth than what you just said.

    • Paul Bell

We walk in shoes of mothers.
Sometimes you feel a bit grown up when parents die, but still value the advice they would have given you when times were tough.

      • Garth Rakumakoe

Absolutely, Paul. I couldn't agree more you know, a mother's place in one's life is always one that no one else can occupy. I totally agree.
