Love is Selfless

Gunnar

Why do we demand of love devotion?
It is but simply exacting confirmation,
from another to pleasance of our ego.
That our charms are desirable like none,
our ways and doings are without fault.

Why do we demand of Love faithfulness?
In truth we have shared our deepest intimacy,
more than once as we have wandered life's path.
Desires fulfilled in thoughtless lust,
wants exhausted we praise and demand fidelity.

Why do we demand of Love complete allegiance?
None are guiltless of shame and miscalculation,
Many a deed discharged also by own willful design.
Still we execute complete rejection upon another,
rightful grants to reproving thought of each other.

Why do we demand of Love acceptance?
The coward will boldly proclaim I am cast in stone,
moulded by experience in life and by vanity.
We sound a trumpet of caution to all who reach out,
when truthfully we remain unfinished works of art.

Woefully, our foolish conceit fashion demands on Love,
Hurriedness in both existence and swift pleasures.
If we grace the precious soul a moment of stillness,
The voice of ancient wisdoms might declare to all,
If Love is truly a virtue desired then attend!!

Discharge vigilance for one other rather than the self.
Embrace fidelity today as if Love is already harboured.
Sanction wisdom and reproval whenever they reflect well.
Retouch your essence always and be the light that beckons.
Be attuned to the wonders of bonding these ways create.

For Love longs of us to ever be giving,
Love created the miracles of receiving.
From the cradle Love patiently nurtures,
Nudging us all gently in wise direction.
Always whispering truths to our hearts.

This cosmetic world is created to seduce you,
Echoing voices of untrue reason defying Love.
Listen to what speaks quietly inside you,
There you will find truth and confirmation.
Demands on Love is a path of failure.

My humble judgement confesses that Love is selfless.
For Love proclaims to all,
Time, and time again.
I am the rock of ages,
I am perfect when selfless.

  • Comment from author about the poem: I believe that as we wander through life making mistake after mistake in our going-ons with the opposite sex...true everlasting love will only be found when the meaning of selflessness is understood and lived. So my thoughts and the fact that I have never found true love lead me to writing this.

Find unconditional love as shown by mother to child. No greater love is there than unconditional love.

true, my words are based on adult relationships and love where unconditional and selfless would basically represent the same thing...adding the fact that the selflessness can also apply to how one treats oneself in life in general.
