deceiving the dark

rebmasters

Your touch
is like shining a light in the darkness;
it doesn’t make the darkness go away,
it just gives you something else to look at
& I love it.

Your warmth
settles over me.
I bask in it,
preparing for
cold nights alone
when I can’t maintain my own heat.

Your words
are poetry;
you give them up freely,
when they make it past the tip of your tongue;
dripping slowly
like warm honey
or hot springs moving through the earth
to the surface

& what you give me is just a layer
& what I see is so much more
& if you could be sure,
I would bury myself
within your cracks
& finally be safe
