Today.
I can’t today my friend,
I’m protecting my shell,
From the monsters outside my window,
Scratching all day and all night,
Calling for the darkness within me,
To come out to play and dance.
I’m sorry,
not today, my love,
My mind is complete chaos,
As is the house, my sanity,
I can't seem to get out of bed,
My life in disarray.
Nope, not going to happen,
Never again, ex-mate,
The wound in my back still aches,
The one from the knife,
You stabbed when you hugged me.
Today I guard myself,
Keeping my monsters in,
Take a rest from this mess
The card for today,
selfcare!

Super first person conversational writing to carry this important message. We all need 'down time' to retreat into ourselves and mend. Mental housekeeping we might call it.
Thank you dusk for your kind comment. I appreciate it.
Self love shall be a priority
It’s time to love for oneself
Well penned dear poet

Something we all need to preserve from time to time. Nobody can pour from an empty cup. It is and essential write. Your pen speaks the truth, Katie.
