The Wreck of Our Lady
Although breached and not whole
she was once
as near perfect, as ever they come ..
Though broke
but not boarded, she had once been
spectacular ..
Yet now grounded and holed, she is
not fit for
purpose, but only for salvage ..
Since nothing
remains but torn sail cloth, old copper
a few rusty nails, plus
one or two timbers, all worm drilled
and rotting which
collectively serve as some grim reminder
of that yesterdays
voyage, gone so desperately wrong
Yet now wrapped
in a page from a forgotten newspaper
Like chips in the
gutter, whether dropped or discarded
makes no bloody
difference, at all in the long-run since
Our Lady’s still gone

Good write N.
Sounds like KP - a rotting boat, all boarded up, bits dropping off her, bits of Botox added - 95% that is. lol.
I know a boat named 'Princess'.
Should I meet this gal? Or this boat? Or both!
... Why not just go for it ........................ and good luck to you Orchidee ............................. N 🙂
Orchi is obsessed with these women he believes you keep throwing up onto MPS - should go without saying they are all, all of them, boats in various states of disrepair.... I have at home a small (4 in) piece of driftwood, found on a beach, smoothed by years of immersion, eaten out by long dead boring thingys and one broken brass screw embedded in its body... Should I do a poem in competition? Nah - not me....You do what you do best, Nev.
... I'm not in it for the money, or the competition, but I must confess, I'm quite partial to both .. cheers Dave .. All Good Thingy's Neville 🙂
Your title says it all Nev. Familiar around our coastline too are boats once so proudly prized and now thrown aside. Real regret comes to mind after reading your lament at seeing the carnage of a storm-wrecked carcass such as that beautiful Lady now just rotting away - - sadly - - Fay ..............x
I confess I had the Kernow coastline in the back of my mind whilst penning these words dear Fay .. well that, and Our Lady at rest in a nearby bay ............................................ x
All ships go to that watery grave at some point, though some go quicker.
There is a great tradition in Britain in restoring old ships, if possible. I take it this ship is too far gone.
You are absolutely write Paul ... in fact, my Father was a boat builder and as much as he enjoyed resurrecting distressed & dying craft, even those seemingly on their last legs, I doubt he would have taken this one on board ....thanks for showing such an interest my friend ... All Good Things,
......................................................................................................................................... Neville
Aye but her torn and buckled plates have such tales to tell as they warn others of the perils of the deep.
and one day, they shall be told ... or hinted at .............................. maybe .. thank you for sowing those seeds sir ... you should either be ashamed or a farmer .............. Neville 🙂
Whether it be a small boat, a yacht, a ship, a bungalow, a mansion, a car, a truck or even a toy either beached, or by the side of the road, in a junkyard or even in the attic, they all have a story to tell, but they all will need a poet such as yourself to give them that last hurrah
You Suresh are far too kind to this old scribe .......... a comment to keep this old geezer afloat come high tide ......................................................... Neville
"The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" by Gordon Lightfoot comes to my mind N. And just as worthy a tribute here of your own, a fine work of prose. 👍
You honour me AP .. that is for sure one helluva song & one that sits proud among my own record collection .................................... Neville
Mine too. The 46th anniversary of the Edmund Fitzgerald's singing was November 10th.
blimey .. I didn't know that ...
Meant to say sinking, not singing. 🙄
I must say you bring her out in all her grandeur. I see her clearly. An adorned work of art sir. Thank you once more good sir.
Thank You Garth, very much appreciated my friend .... Neville
